Have you ever seen a beach so pristine that you could hardly believe such a place existed?
Cue the scene for Meads Bay Beach in Anguilla.
This stunning location on Anguilla’s north shore is truly the definition of a Caribbean paradise. Meads Bay features a mixture of soft white sand and cerulean blue water that’s so inviting you might need to be dragged away from the island when it’s time to leave.
Now, to be sure, there are plenty of nice beaches in the Caribbean. I’m sure that Jamaica, Aruba, and the Bahamas are all great beach destinations as well.
However, there’s one element that makes Meads Bay Beach truly unique: it’s virtually empty all the time.
Anguilla Overview
In order to understand Meads Bay and its absence of crowds, one must first understand the island that hosts this incredible beach. Anguilla is British overseas territory positioned in the Eastern Caribbean. For context, it’s located about 230 miles East of Puerto Rico.
Now the reason you’ve probably never heard of Anguilla is because it’s not very easy to get there. Although you could fly directly from Puerto Rico to Anguilla, most people fly into the neighboring island of Sint Maarten/Saint Martin (two separate nations on the same island) and then take a ferry over to Anguilla.
If you’re visiting the island from the United States, or really most countries for that matter, there is absolutely no way to fly directly to Anguilla. It’s a tiny island that doesn’t have a major airport. With this being said, the absence of crowds can be attributed to both Anguilla’s relative obscurity and to its somewhat inaccessible nature.
In a world where we can take a direct flight almost anywhere, Anguilla remains somewhat of a challenge to reach. Due to this fact, the entire island appears much calmer than one would imagine for such a beautiful destination.
Meads Bay Overview
Now that we’ve covered Anguilla, let’s talk about Meads Bay specifically.
Meads Bay is both a beach and a tourist area of sorts. However, while there is plenty of infrastructure to support tourism, it is by no means a tourist hot spot. This causes a scenario where you have plenty of options for hotels and restaurants without feeling like you had the exact same vacation idea as everyone else.
Right in front of the numerous hotels and restaurants lies Meads Bay Beach, one of the most beautiful beaches in the entire Caribbean. The sand is quite soft and it gradually slopes down towards the water in this semi-protected bay. As such, the water is calm and it’s easy to float in a leisurely manner while the waves gently rock you back and forth.
Quick story. Before visiting Anguilla, I saw numerous pictures of rainbows shining brightly behind the majestic waters off of Meads Bay. I wondered if it was just coincidence or if there was some scientific explanation as to why this location seemed to receive more rainbows than the average beach. When I arrived, low and behold, there was indeed a vibrant rainbow jetting up into the morning sky.
Hotels On Meads Bay
As I previously mentioned, there’s no shortage of options for hotels on Meads Bay. I personally stayed at the Carimar Beach Club, which was a great option from a value perspective. My unit was right on the beach and it featured a balcony that overlooked the water. Although it’s technically a hotel, Carimar feels more like a beachfront Airbnb as there’s no restaurant or community area on site.
Some other nice hotels situated along Meads Bay Beach include Malliouhana, Frangipani, and Four Seasons. These three hotels have more of a resort ambience and are all very good options depending on your budget. However, It should be noted that Anguilla isn’t cheap by any stretch of imagination. You can stay at one of these fine hotels and then go have dinner or drinks at the others, which is something I highly recommend doing.
Overall, you’ll be sure to find a beachfront hotel that suits your personal preferences.
A Caribbean Paradise
From its vibrant blue water to its soft white sand, Anguilla’s Meads Bay Beach is truly the definition of a Caribbean paradise. If you like pristine beaches, colorful hotels, world-class restaurants, and a sense of overwhelming tranquility, Meads Bay might be the perfect choice for you.

Excellent post about a place that is hopefully remains a bit hidden. I like this sentence: “This causes a scenario where you have plenty of options for hotels and restaurants without feeling like you had the exact same vacation idea as everyone else.” I know that feeling well and it makes for finding a great spot!
Haha yeah it’s terrible when you have the same vacation idea as everyone else! Luckily that’s not the case with Anguilla.
